WHY SIGMA GAMMA RHO?
When I was in high school I always knew that I wanted to be a part of something great. I
didn't know exactly what it was, but I knew that there was something within in me that
was destined to be involved in something that was bigger than me. The very first time
that I encountered a Sigma Gamma Rho woman, I had taken a trip with my mother to visit
one of her high school friends. While they were catching up, I had the opportunity to sit
down and talk to the woman’s oldest daughter. She talked to me about her experience in
college and the provided me with some survival tips since I would be leaving within a few
short weeks to venture out on my own to attend college in Norfolk, VA at Old Dominion
University. After I had finished my talk with her I felt confident and brave as if I would be
able to take on the entire world on my own. Once I arrived to Virginia I was in search of the
women that would be just as inspirational as that young woman that I had spoken with
before I left for college. Those women were sitting in the Student Union one day, laughing
and smiling and had tons of people around them that looked as if they were enjoying
themselves. I couldn't help but smile to myself because that was exactly what I was
looking for, exactly what I wanted. Over time I got to know the ladies of the Theta Chi
chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc I learned that they were just like me. Women
of distinction, women about taking care of business, and taking care of others. They were
there for me during some of the hardest time of my college experience. They became
more than friends to me. They were my extended family. Kind of like the big sister that I
always needed. Women that knew how to have fun without harming or hindering the
image of what a woman ‘IS’ and what a woman ‘Should’ be. I feel so completely blessed to
be a part of such an organization, and I feel unspeakable honored to be an OH SO FLY
OMICRON CHI Sigma Gamma Rho woman.

MAJOR: NURSING
CHAPTER POSITION: BASLIEUS (President)
WHY SIGMA GAMMA RHO?
When I decided to seek the sisterhood of a
sorority, I was drawn to the attitudes that the
members of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority
displayed. In regards to getting information,
they were very open to answering any
question that I had. In addition to their
openness, they exemplified what true sister
hood is and I didn't look any further than the
Blue & Gold.

NAME: ANGELA HAMPTON
YEAR: JUNIOR
MAJOR: NURSING
CHAPTER POSITION: GRAMMATEUS
wHY SIGMA:
As a legacy I had the advantage of getting to know women of Sigma
from many backgrounds and walks of life throughout my journey to the
most informed decision I could make. These women were the same on
a graduate level as well as an undergraduate level (no matter where I
went as an unknown visitor or friend of a friend) - warm, down to earth,
smart, classy, sophisticated, approachable, and loved by those that
have had interaction with them. Although I could have placed my
membership with anyone of the other sororities within the "Divine Nine"
I chose SIGMA...there would have been no other choice. The variety of
personality and women in the organization is what inspires me to strive
to be better and renews my love for my sorority and what it was
founded on - daily. Sigma women have always came off strong and
independent to me; they take care of business and don't feel the need
to boast and be proud of what they do in the community and within the
sorority. Knowing that it is done is satisfaction enough for them and it's
been the same way for me! I'm am more than happy with my decision
and will PRHOSEED to the very end to uphold what I think and know a
woman of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. should be. I take pride in
dressing in Rhoyal Blue and Antique Gold!

NAME: TIFFIANI C. BALLINGER
YEAR: SENIOR
MAJOR: NURSING
CHAPTER POSITION: TAMIOCHUS (TREASURER)
ABOUT TIFFIANI:
I am the mother of two children and a full time nursing student.
I currently hold the office of treasurer in my chapter and
recording secretary for the National Pan-Hellenic Council of
Chicago State University. I am a native of the south side of
Chicago, and attended Percy L. Julian High school. In my spare
time I love to spend time with my children, shop and work on
my computer and hang out with my sorority sisters. I
chose to be apart of Sigma Gamma Rho, the best
organization there is, because it is an organization
that is designed for collegiate women. Because it is
an organization about serving those that need our help
, uplifting our youth, and helping women everywhere to
stand strong. It is the organization that I felt most comfortable
being myself. Being around young women always made me feel
comfortable, and Sigma Gamma Rho is filled with young women,
real women, that are successful and willing to give back.

NAME: TEQUILA FABER
YEAR: JUNIOR
MAJOR: ELEMENTARY EDUCATION
CHAPTER POSITION: EPISTOLEUS
WHY SIGMA GAMMA RHO?
The first interaction that I had with a member of a
sorority was a member of Sigma Gamma Rho. Her name
was Kelli Hall and she was from Gamma Beta which is the
chapter on Southern Illinois University. Kelli was always so
friendly and helpful. Whenever I seen the Sigma Gamma
Rhos on campus they were always going something to
uplift the campus by either cleaning the quad or hosting
educational programs. Another reason I chose Sigma
Gamma Rho was because the founders motivated me,
these seven young women were faced with many
obstacles. One being the only sorority founded on an all
White campus, during a time when the Ku Klux Klan was
making life hard for black, but that did not detour these
young woman for accomplishing their goal.

NAME: RAIJEAN STROUD
POSITION: ADVISOR
CHAPTER: DELTA SIGMA BY WAY OF BETA RHO!
WHY SIGMA GAMMA RHO?
WAS THERE ANYBODY ELSE? THAT MAY SOUND LIKE AN
ARROGANT STATEMENT, BUT FOR ME THERE WASN'T ANOTHER
CHOICE. I DECIDED THAT SIGMA GAMMA RHO WAS FOR ME
WHEN I LAID EYES ON THE MEMBERS OF THE BETA RHO
CHAPTER AT A CAMPUS EVENT. THEY WERE OPEN, FUN, AND
JUST DOWN-TO-EARTH WOMEN WHO DIDN'T MAKE ME FEEL AS
IF I WERE BENEATH THEM. THE CHOICE WAS SIMPLE FOR ME
AND 7 YEARS LATER IT CONTINUES TO BE A PLEASURE TO BE A
MEMBER.

NAME: ALERIA ELYSE BUTLER

MAJOR: ELEMENTARY EDUCATION
CHAPTER POSITION: MEMBER
Why Sigma Gamma Rho?
I decided to choose the path of the Rhoyal Blue and Antique
Gold, because it is said to be that women of substance choose
Sigma Gamma Rho. I am a woman of substance. I am also a
future educator. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. was founded
by seven educators that wanted to affect the children in their
community positively. In a time of racial prejudice these seven
African American women came together on a predominately
white school to establish a legacy of Greater Service Greater
Progress. I will continue their legacy.
